Prisons and Probation Service

The Prisons and Probation Service is the authority that enforces the sentence imposed by the court. The service is responsible for remand centres, prisons and probation. During the term of a prison sentence, it is the responsibility of the service together with the inmate to work towards his/her rehabilitation. This is done through work, training and counselling. These are measures aimed at preventing the inmate from committing further crime on release, which is one of the most important tasks of the service.
